2026 RACE CANCELLED
It is with great sadness and disappointment that we announce the cancellation of this year’s AJM Breede Canoe Marathon.
After consultation with all the relevant committees and safety officials, the following concerns have been considered:
• Warnings and safety concerns raised by the local municipalities and landowners.
• Unknown new hazards and river blockages following the recent flood damage.
• Limited access to known river safety points.
• No long term forecasted rainfall in the Breede catchment area.
• Current low water levels (4 cumec and dropping).
• Start and finish venues are still in the rebuilding stages with limited operational function/ablution facilities.
• Early deposit outlays which would result in considerable late cancellation financial losses to the WCCU.
• Last minute accommodation cancellation costs.
• Paddler experience disappointment.
• Sponsor expectation disappointment.
